It is known that many of the flowers and plants require the process of pollination in order to reproduce. Pollinators such as the honey bees are essential key to the process of pollination. However, with the rapid decrease in the population of the main pollinators, it is feared that the biodiversity and ecosystems will be greatly affected.

It is a fact that has been found that different kinds of bees have preferences for different flowers. A research simulated what will happen if one entire species of bees disappeared. The results have shown that when one entire species of bees are removed from the ecosystem, the remaining pollinators became less faithful to the types of flowers they visit and therefore, increased in the variety of plants they visit. However, this causes a problem because most plants require its own type of pollen in order to reproduce. The research has concluded that the plants reproduced 30% lesser seeds.

This strongly indicates a synergetic relationship between the honey bees and the plants, whereby the plants need bees to help them pollinate and reproduce and in return, the bee get nectar and pollen as food to feed the colony. Therefore, if bees go extinct, many flowers and plants will soon follow and eventually, the entire ecosystem will fall apart.
