As A Teenager

As Gore was entering high school, his interest in the environment began when his mother was reading Silent Spring. They then discussed about the pesticide and the environment during the dinner table conversation. He was also following the environmental reports about how the limits to growth was a main issue, and initiatives like Earth Day.

As A Student

In his senior year at Harvard, Gore took a class with oceanographer and global warming theorist Roger Revelle, who sparked Gore’s interest in global warming and other environmental issues. Revelle’s work made such an impact on Gore that it was even brought up in the film documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Gore acknowledged his former teacher and scientist as his inspiration for his global warming public awareness crusade.

As A Father

Gore almost lost his son in a car accident in 1989. This life-changing event reminded him how he should spend his time in the world. While his son was recovering, he wrote his first book called Earth in the Balance This event also made him realized that he could easily lose something so precious and yet taken granted for. This very sentiment made him feel more strongly to save the environment before it is lost.
